This project seeks to provide the Frankston and surrounding community with a new multi-purpose space for activities that create human connection with nature, build personal resilience and support community strengthening. The Wellness Garden and Quiet Space will offer individuals and groups a special kind of outdoor space suitable for rest, contemplation, meditation and other quiet activities during daylight hours. Situated near the popular Shared User Path running through the Estate and using indigenous, native and sensory plants, the garden will be accessible to people of all ages and abilities and attract beneficial birds, insects and other wildlife to the site.
This garden space will be different from and complementary to existing public gardens in Frankston, dedicated to bringing an intentional reminder to people of the benefit of taking a break from the fast pace of everyday life. As a new part of Down’s Estate Community Project, situated beside the Seaford Wetlands, it will also create a connection for users to the surrounding ecology. The Wellness Garden and Quiet Space project can develop further over time with other features identified by community users including local residents and interest groups such as Interfaith, Arts, Music and Wellness groups with a therapeutic purpose.
