With the ongoing support of the community, The Old Church on the Hill (TOCH) has been transformed from an ageing, highly underutilised church property into a thriving community hub. A deck would extend the recently developed Community Kitchen and Feast Space into the Community Garden, providing a family-friendly outdoor space where people can sit, watch their children in the playground, and connect with friends and neighbours over a cuppa. The deck will be complemented by a refreshed wooden floor in the Feast Space, and a consistent, trip-free surface across the site. It will be free for use by the community.
So what is TOCH? TOCH is a community space in Quarry Hill, Bendigo, which exists to strengthen neighbourhoods, foster community connectedness and resilience, and reconnect people with the natural environment. Site developments, such as our commercial-grade kitchen and accessible toilet facilities, have only been possible through community contributions and fundraising. A deck is a much-needed addition as, especially during music and multicultural events, the Feast Space can be a bit tight for the growing TOCH community! Plus, the deck, with its access ramps, the refreshed Feast Space flooring, and a consistent surface connecting the buildings, will further enhance TOCHs aims.
